Happy Birthday, Micah!

Five years ago today, I was sitting in a hospital bed holding the most precious, beautiful, wonderful little baby boy I had ever seen.  He was 6 pounds and 3 ounces of pure kissable softness.  I thanked God then and there for giving John and me that precious little gift.

These past five years we have been blessed to see him grow into a little boy eager to learn about God and Jesus.  He loves to dance around playing his air guitar.  He says the funniest things sometimes.  And he has a sweet little voice when he sings.

When I think about it, I don’t know what I did to deserve such a precious gift, but I’m thankful that I was given him.  I can’t wait to see what the next year brings.

Micah’s Fifth Birthday Party

Micah has been patiently anxiously awaiting the day of his birthday party.  So much so that I had to make him a calendar where he could mark off the days until the time for the big event.  It’s been on the refrigerator all month.

Micah asked for a pirate themed party.  And he wanted to invite our family and some of his friends from church.  So that’s what we did.

As an extra surprise for him, we were able to get a great deal on a bounce house.  They didn’t have any pirate bounce houses, so we made do with Spiderman.

Micah had to stick his tongue out, and of course little brother Caleb had to do the same:

The kids played in the bounce house while John cooked the hamburgers and hot dogs.

Then it was time for presents.

Yes, there are a couple of Nerf Dart guns in these pictures.  I might have a future headache on my hands once the boys get the hang of them.  Either that, or Micah just might shoot Caleb’s eye out.  Either way, pray for my sanity.

Micah’s friend Ezekiel came up to him after he opened up all the presents and told Micah that he loves him.  Isn’t that the sweetest thing?  And then to top it off, they hugged.  Love it!

After the presents, it was time for cake.  Yum-o!  Micah wanted a chocolate cake, and I think that was a good choice because it was so delicious!

We all sang happy birthday and then Micah blew out the candles.

If you look closely at the little sailor at the front of the ship, you can tell he was getting a little seasick.  He’s leaning over the rail.  Really he just fell over when I moved the cake, but the seasick thing is a much better story! =)

I made goodie bags for all of the kids to take home.  Every pirate needs a treasure map so I made one for the kids.  It was fun, but my poor little thumb took a beating because I kept having to relight the lighter and the metal got really hot.  But it was worth it.

All in all, I think Micah had a really great time at his party.  I can’t believe that in just a few days my sweet little baby boy that I first held 5 years ago will be a five year old.  My how time flies!

Easter

The boys, John, and I had a fun filled Easter weekend.  Saturday morning we took the boys to Trinity Church for their annual Easter egg hunt.  We all met in the sanctuary to sing songs, and then they separated into age groups to listen to a story, make a craft, get refreshments, and then on to the Easter egg hunt.  The boys made a jelly bean carrot that had a little story about  the color of the jelly beans.

Then it was on to the Easter egg hunt.  The boys were so excited.  They hunted and hunted and found the amount of Easter eggs that they were told to find.

Once that was over we went home and it was time for lunch and a much needed nap, since the boys had woken up extra early that morning.

Later that day, the boys dyed Easter eggs.  They really had fun, but we made the mistake of dying the eggs after their bath, so they both ended up going to church the next morning with dyed hands.  Oh well.

The next morning both boys were excited to find their Easter basket filled with goodies.

That afternoon we had our friends, the Cook family, over for Easter dinner, as well as John’s family.  It was a good time of food and fellowship.  After lunch, I hid some eggs and then the kids hunted for them.  They had a lot of fun.

You will notice that both of my boys had stripped down to their wife beaters to hunt for eggs.  Don’t want to have anything hindering their ability to find the eggs.

This is what they looked like all gussied up:

We had a great Easter celebrating the resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ, and we hope everyone else had a good day too.

April Fools!

OK, so my previous post about being pregnant with twins was an April Fool’s Day joke.  I am really pregnant, but I haven’t been to the doctor yet.

I’m hoping the joke won’t be on me, though.  I go to my general practitioner on Monday to get referred to my OB/GYN.  I’m hoping that when I do get my exam that we only hear one little heartbeat.  I don’t want to have jinxed myself with my little practical joke.

Thanks for playing along!

First Doctor’s Appointment

Well I went to my first doctor’s appointment yesterday.  I had originally scheduled it for Monday, but they called to say they had an opening yesterday, so I went in.

I was excited because the doctor decided to do an ultrasound.  It was really small, but you could see my little peanuts in there!

Wait a second…

Did she say what I think she said?…

Peanuts???

That’s right, I’m having twins!  Dr. Huss had told me after I had Caleb that I had a heart shaped uterus that would be perfect for carrying twins.  But I didn’t expect to actually have any!  But twins do run in my family on my mom’s side, so I guess anything is possible.

My scanner isn’t working right now, so I couldn’t scan the picture, but I will try at work today, and will post the picture later today.

How exciting!!!
